GWVH Wreath Ceremony - 15 December 2008. The Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) have been hosting Wreaths Across America at Veteran's Cemeteries for the past two years and this year, the PGR Georgia Chapter held theirs at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia on 15 DEC 07. The CVMA GA Chapter was invited to participate and without hesitation, thirteen members from this prestigious association answered the call and set out on what would be a wet ride led by Chapter Commander Jack Tripp.
The week prior to the ceremony, a watchful eye was cast on local/state weather channels by our Executive Officer "Come rain, sleet or shine!" DOC. Well, DOC, 1 outta 3 ain't bad! Luck would have it, rain is exactly what we got as soon as we staged up and headed out of Macon, GA for the 30 mile ride to Milledgeville via HWY 49. With the rain falling at a steady pace and with our determination to honor those that have made the Ultimate Sacrifice and those who served their time and were laid to rest, we pushed on towards Milledgeville.
Upon our arrival, the PGR was parading towards the Chapel and we proudly joined in their flag line. Even though the rain was relentless, it did not dampen anyone's spirits or the patriotism of those that were in attendance. I am proud to have been a part of the ceremony and look forward to more events with the CVMA GA Chapter.
On the lighter side …. Now, I realize that the price of gas is high, but there are some of us who feel they must squeeze every last ounce of fuel out of their tank before refueling. Thought I would toss that in for laughs ... and you bet someone is getting a new “road name”. Thanks everyone and have a good week!
Brian Rhoden USN RET | International Bike Show - 19 January 2008. Atlanta, Georgia hosted the International Bike show 18-20 January at the World Congress Center. As Atlanta was in what the locals would consider a blizard on the 19th, this wasn't so much a ride .... but a great time to check out some hot bikes - and according to Doc some hot "Biker Babes" - I think he only had his face slapped twice, but the one known only as "Granny" almost took his head off after she got her teeth put back in after the hot dog eating contest. We rushed him out of there before he could get in any serious trouble. Custom bikes were bountiful .... if only I had a bigger garage! Nobody stopped by to snap a pic with leading builder Roland Sands and pick up an autograph. The rest of us just kept an eye on Doc. So this wasn't a ride - but a great way to spend a snowy Saturday in Atlanta. See ya next year. | Ride to No Where - 16 February 2008. So who would have thought that riding to "No Where" right near "Some Place" -- you know the nice little spot right down the road, would be so much fun. But I'm here to tell you it was a blast. Of course we had to start the day with a healthly, grease filled, breakfast at the Awful Waffle - Jack's treat - thanks for the chow CO! After chow we headed to the initial link-up to wait for some additional folks - they didn't make it but Jack did entertain everyone demonstrating how to wear "under pants" to keep your head warm - got to check out the pics to believe this one! Well after a bit of that enlightenment we got the word to roll, so we headed to Butler to link up with Cool Breeze and Dr. Evil (our newest member - CVMA 2200). Buttler was a good link-up and had plenty of fuel - Flameout personally ensured that we were all squared up on Class III - nothing would interfere with our scheduled lunch with the Hooter's girls!! Being right familiar with the area - Doc Evil took point and led the ride to the Harley shop there in Columbus - good thing, cause my old "Paint Shaker" had slung off a few excess pieces and I needed a few replacements to make it back home. We linked up with Ed at the shop after his long haul from Cairo (the one in Georgia - not Egypt) and after a bit of drooling over the new toy's at the dealership we headed to one of the Happiest Places on Earth - and I'm not talking Disney Land here!! Hooter's here we come!! I'll not disclose too many details about lunch, but sweet Tiffany was certainly a pleasent waitress - serving up Hooters finest cuisine. After our fill of wings and things we were off to Hot Springs. For you history buffs - FDR's little get away. We stopped by a pretty nice little leather shop and met some of the locals in Warm Springs. One sweet darling offered me two of my favorite things - Warm Cookies and Cold Beer - now that's two great tastes that taste great together!! We continued our ride - hitting the release point in Senoia and heading our separate ways. It was a great day on the road to "No Where" - hope to see you next time on the ride to "Some Place" - I know you'll like it! |
